Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery Bonn

Holistic orthopaedic care

In our practice for orthopaedics and trauma surgery, you will be treated by Peter Braun, Dr. Markus Klingenberg, Philip Ibe, Dr. Wiebke Terwedow, Dr. Verena Lamm and Dr. Manuel Sowoda for all musculoskeletal disorders. Whether congenital or acquired joint and limb deformities, sports injuries in children and adults or degenerative joint diseases (arthrosis) – the team of doctors at Orthopaedics Bonn is there for you with expertise.

Treatment is conservative (non-surgical) and surgical (outpatient and inpatient). The team of doctors at Orthopaedics Bonn has access to the Beta Klinik’s two state-of-the-art Class 1 operating theatres for operations, including intraoperative 3D X-ray diagnostics. Post-operative monitoring takes place in the interdisciplinary recovery ward, where intensive therapy places are also available if required. Physiotherapy – whether before or after an operation – can be carried out at the Beta Klinik’s rehabilitation center, Beta Sport & Reha.

In our practice, specialized doctors will accompany you for acute and chronic complaints throughout the entire treatment period. In this way, you can build up a relationship of trust with your attending physician and always have the same contact person who knows all your findings and circumstances. If, for example, an operation is necessary, your attending doctor will not only carry out the preparation and the actual procedure, but also the complete follow-up treatment if you wish.

If you are referred to us for surgery by a medical colleague, he or she will usually take over the follow-up treatment and will provide us with all the necessary information for optimal care.

Operative treatment focuses

Bundled expertise under one roof at Orthopaedics Bonn: We offer the complete range of surgical treatments.

In cases of severe joint wear (osteoarthritis), joint replacement or axis correction may be necessary despite the latest conservative and minimally invasive treatment methods. Your experienced surgeon will advise you on the various treatment options with a view to your personal needs. All modern procedures with partial or full hip, knee and shoulder prostheses are available. The radiological examinations (CT/MRI) required for customized prostheses are carried out in-house. Complex replacement operations for prostheses are also carried out by our orthopaedic team. Peter Braun worked for many years as head of endoprosthetic departments.

  • Knee (partial/total endoprosthesis, individual prosthesis)
  • Hip
  • Shoulder
  • Alternating arthroplasty
  • Knee joint realignment surgery for malalignment or osteoarthritis

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure in which our experienced experts insert a probe (arthroscope) into the joint cavity. Compared to open joint surgery, arthroscopy usually results in less pain postoperatively. In addition, healing is usually much faster and the joint can be moved and loaded again sooner. You can find out whether arthroscopy is an option or whether open surgery is necessary in a detailed preliminary consultation at our orthopaedics department in Bonn. Dr. Klingenberg and Philip Ibe are specialized arthroscopists of the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA).

  • Bottleneck syndrome (impingement)
  • Reconstruction of the rotator cuff
  • Instability of the shoulder/acromioclavicular joint
  • Diseases of the biceps tendon

A particular focus of our practice is on conservative and surgical cartilage therapy. We offer you help with cartilage diseases such as osteoarthritis – be it with hyaluronic acid treatment, PRP autologous blood therapy or knee arthroplasty.

In traumatology, the specialists treat fractures of all tubular bones as well as soft tissue injuries and ligament and tendon ruptures. Patients with acute injuries can attend the neurosurgical and orthopaedic emergency consultation hours at weekends and on public holidays.

Preventing injuries is better than treating them. This is why our orthopaedics department in Bonn places particular emphasis on functional movement analysis. Here, the orthopaedists work together with the Sports Medicine and Beta Sport & Rehab departments.

Over time, mechanical changes often occur (injuries, scar tissue, muscular imbalances and weaknesses, loss of mobility, etc.), with the result that the body no longer works as efficiently as it could and should. This often impairs basic mobility and subsequently leads to poor posture and incorrect movement patterns. Loss of performance and injuries can be the result. Through movement analysis, orthopaedic specialists can identify interlinked symptoms and thus treat the actual cause.

Another important area in sports orthopaedics is the so-called return-to-sport decision, which should always be made in close consultation with an experienced sports physician:

  • Functional Capacity Screen (FCS)
  • Functional Movement Screen (FMS)
  • Y-Balance Test (Y-BT)
  • Selective Functional Movement Assessment
  • (SFMA)
  • Neuromuscular analysis (HUBER® 360)
  • Lactate measurement

Osteoporosis (bone loss) is often seen as a disease of older women. However, men can also be affected and suffer just as much from the consequences. It is therefore advisable to prevent osteoporosis – or to recognize it in good time and have it treated. To this end, laboratory tests and bone density measurements are carried out at our orthopaedics clinic in Bonn. When treating osteoporosis, it is important to clarify the exact cause, as this results in different treatment concepts.

Dr. med. Andreas Heck expands the range of services offered by the group practice to include pediatric orthopaedics.
