Minimally invasive prosthetics
What does that mean?
Minimally invasive prosthetics is a surgical procedure in which joint replacement operations are performed using a small incision without cutting the muscles. It is an advanced technique that aims to speed up the healing process, minimize blood loss and improve post-operative rehabilitation. The procedure is used in joint replacement surgeries such as hip and knee replacements.
Minimally invasive prosthetics has proven to be an excellent method for joint disease surgery and is preferred by many patients as it results in faster recovery and less stress on the body. However, it is important to note that not all patients are suitable for this procedure and that the decision to undergo minimally invasive prosthetics depends on various factors. For example, the patient’s anatomy and individual needs play a decisive role.

Minimally invasive hip prosthesis Bonn
vs. classic hip surgery
The use of a hip prosthesis is always necessary when conservative treatment is no longer successful in cases of severe pain and restricted hip movement. A hip prosthesis is primarily used in cases of advanced hip osteoarthritis and complicated femoral neck fractures.
In classic hip surgery, an incision about 15 centimetres long is made on the lateral or posterior thigh. The thigh muscles and tendons have to be severed in order to reach the diseased hip joint.
In minimally invasive hip surgery, a natural muscle gap is used to reach the hip joint. Muscles and tendons are not severed, but pushed apart like a curtain. Once the hip prosthesis has been inserted, it falls back into place undamaged.
